September 23rd, 2007 at 07:04 pm by wRitErsbLock in UncategorizedI mentioned we went to St. Augustine yesterday. We made several stops, because that’s how we roll, yo!

Our third stop: Flagler Beach.

Our fifth stop: the lighthouse at St. Augustine. We didn’t feel like paying to climb the stairs. We’re lazy and cheap like that.

We did, however do cheesy touristy pictures outside the light house.

This picture was taken on the retention wall just outside the Castillo de San Marcos. She looks thrilled, right? So… do you see the teenager coming on, or is it just me?

We arrived at St. Augustine too late to gain entrance to the Castillo de San Marcos. That’s okay, we’ve all been there before. And that gave us time to wander around looking for Ponce de Leon’s elusive Fountain of Youth. We were told it was right near the cross, but we couldn’t find it.

We walked St. Georges street. If you’ve never been there, it’s closed to vehicular traffic and is full of tourist shops and restaurants. RTY wanted ice cream for dinner, but we forced her to eat a meal at a restaurant. The quest for dinner was exhausting because we had already walked so much, and because we could not agree on what to eat. Sherlock and I finally played the parent card and picked a restaurant. I had fish n chips, RTY had a bland and tasteless (her description) pizza, and sherlock had fried gator tail. We two also had a martini each. Sherlock had a sour cherry martini and I had one called a turtle that was made with Three Olives chocolate vodka, some butterscotch schnapps, and something else. It was divine, but I drank it too quickly and developed heart burn. It was similar to a white Russian.
After dinner, we did the ghost tour. One hour and fifteen minutes. I really enjoyed it and felt it was worth the money. RTY claims not to buy into all that ghost bologna. But then, in the car on the way home, sherlock and I both shared stories from our childhoods about unexplained phenomena in different houses we lived in. Yes, I believe in ghosts. Shut up!
It was a great day. We got home at 1130p. We were tired and achy.

What a great day! I love spontaneous planning like that!
BTW, Brandon is sitting on my lap while I’m on the computer, and he asked me, “Why does RTY look sad?” LOL
I don’t think RTY knew what to make of us not having a plan (other than 8p ghost tour). We don’t often day trip with her, so she’s never really experienced our laid back ways like that. But, when she realized we’d stop if she wanted to, too, she started to appreciate it.
How funny, I’m wearing my flagler beach tshirt right this minute. I had the best gator there……yummy.
And I love St. Augustine. One of my favorite places. Oh…..and it’s stunning at Christmas.
Thanks for sharing these. Damn. I gotta get down there again…..Soon!!!
I wish the sky had been bluer. But we encountered spitting rain all afternoon. Not a downpour, thank goodness, but the rain did make it harder to take pretty pictures. Although I’m certain it kept the temperature down, too.
