The recent posts Tammi has written about escaping her abusive relationship have brought my first marriage back to mind. When I left Idiot Boy, I made a point of leaving him with all the furniture so that I could get the most inexpensive (smallest/studio) apartment that would easily fit into my single-person budget. In his defense, he did try to encourage me to take various pieces of furniture with me when I left, but I flat out refused. I figured he picked it all out (my opinion had no weight), and it was primarily particle board furniture anyway, that he should be stuck with it so I could buy real furniture. The one piece of furniture we fought over: our
clock.
We had a beautiful clock. It fell into the
grandfather clocks category, I guess. It was a very tall clock that sat on the floor, but in lieu of a swinging pendulum, it had wood carving and shelves at various heights. The face was very unique, too. It was a cool clock. I'm sorry he ended up keeping it as it would look really nice in my living room. Of course, the past is past, and my tastes have changed, so I might not like it as much were I to see it today. Especially when my taste now leans more toward
this sort of thing:

This would look quite nice in my living room / dining room area. Don't you think so? Maybe on the wall opposite the salt water aquarium. Did you know your choice of timepiece says a lot about
your personality? Hmmm... I wonder what my choice of a metal clock says about me. That I'm cold as steel? Heh. I can live with that!
My brother has a lovely grandfather clock that goes well with his Thomas Kinkade taste. Sherlock and I like the more modern home furnishings. I'm pleased to see the modern movement is showing up in the traditional art of grandfather clocks.
