pretty dang close, but not dead yet.

This morning: 10 miles.

We were supposed to meet up at 645a at the designated spot in Baldwin Park. I was late due to my stomach’s refusal to stop being angry with me. Better it’s angry at home than, say, on mile three when I’m far from a potty. From where we start, around the lake, and back to the start is 4.5 miles. This morning was two laps around the lake, and a final lap around the one mile loop. Because I was late, I didn’t have a running buddy. That sucked. Big time. I didn’t realize just how much I rely on moral support on the longer runs.

I have not yet hooked up my iPod to download the run. But it was roughly two and a half hours. I just didn’t have it in me to run much at all after I hit the 8 mile mark. I choose to blame the blood donation two days ago. Seriously, that can impact your energy level.

After, while I was stretching and drinking water, I suddenly got very dizzy. I found a park bench and sat down. My friend I met at the 15K, Candy, finished before me (let’s face it, I was last, but I also was late, so that’s okay) came and sat with me. And then, I got really dizzy, and had to put my head between my knees. And then, I was certain I’d puke, and chose instead to lay down on the ground. This worried Candy, my coaches, and the other team mates who had not left. Several came over to offer me power bars, water, whatever. I just needed to lay down for a few minutes until the nausea passed. After all, I was on my scooter, and I cannot ride that thing if I’m too dizzy to stand up. Candy, realizing I was on my scooter, then got very concerned. She wanted to throw my scooter into the back of her truck and drive me home. I appreciated the unnecessary gesture; I just needed to rest.

And, I made it home. My legs feel better than they did after the 15K, but my stomach is flip-flopping like John Kerry. I think I need to eat something and that’ll fix me.

So, overall, the run didn’t suck too much. It was much better than the 15K, but harder on my stomach.

  1. pam Said,

Go you! I couldn’t do that; lately it’s hard for me to go two miles, let alone TEN.

  2. wRitErsbLock Said,

Pam, I could barely do it. Truly, though, I was pleased that the 10 miles was, if not easier, at least not harder than the 9.3 from two weeks ago.

And I am dead tired right now.

  3. Jason Said,

Flip Flopping like John Kerry, now that is funny.
