almost 17 years
March 8th, 2010 at 09:04 pm by wRitErsbLock in Some Fun Now!Can you believe we’ve been friends for almost 17 years? That means I’m old. But he had a cashier ask him “you’re over 40, right?” when he bought wine today! LMAO!

He had to change his flight, so he’s flying home tonight instead of tomorrow night. And so, he came for dinner before his flight. I admired his princess bling, and coveted it. He gave me his princess shirt, as he’s not feeling very princessy for some reason!

If not before then, I’ll see him in California in September.

I’m so cool!

bummer about the blur
March 6th, 2010 at 09:53 pm by wRitErsbLock in Some Fun Now!Apparently, after a couple adult beverages at Outback, we get blurry.

But before the meal, there was no blur.

Weird. Might be the sweet tea vodka-based tasty adult beverage I was consuming, or their margaritas. Or, my husband just can’t work my camera. One or the other!
It was so great to see my friend! He’s running the disney princess half marathon in the morning, as he’s secure in his manhood enough to run a princess race! He just needs this race to qualify for the coast-to-coast so he and I can run together in California in September. I qualified with my half in January. The things we do for bling!
I hope he comes back on Monday, as we need to re-do the blurry picture.

I’ll get sooo much use out of this here in Orlando!
February 26th, 2010 at 06:18 pm by wRitErsbLock in Proud to be American, Some Fun Now!, olympicsLOVE!

Thank you so much to faithful reader Kristi for sending me the link to buy this fabulous hat. I love it! Love.
And it’s a fabulous hat. Truly well made. Granted, I know nothing at all about knitting. But I was feeling kind of sheepish about spending that much on something of absolutely no use to a Floridian. However, now that I have this super cool hat in my possession, I can properly review it for you.
The knit part of the hat is completely lined with warm, soft fleece. So I imagine, were I in a climate that would necessitate wearing a hat outside, my ears and head would be quite warm. And the “hair” on the hat is just so much fun! I love it! LOVE IT!
And, it appears to be made by an Olympian, so go team! That’s probably why I’ve seen so many people wearing these hats on the slopes in Whistler; she probably took some with her and sold them to unsuspecting tourists.
It’s really a great, well-made, warm, comfortable hat. YAY!
You’re jealous.

Blondie concert
February 20th, 2010 at 11:32 pm by wRitErsbLock in Salve for the Soul, Some Fun Now!, You call this entertaining? We headed out to Universal Studios tonight for the Blondie concert. Someone there said Blondie is something like 64 years old. Wow! Go her! She looks fantastic. She should market whichever deep wrinkle cream she no doubt uses. And go her with her ballsy outfit:

The concert was good. The sound was not balanced, so it was very hard to hear her singing. But it was good. I’m afraid I was unfamiliar with most of their music. Kudos to them for doing an hour and a half show; typically, Mardi Gras concerts are only 45-60 minutes. They also did an encore, which never happens at Mardi Gras concerts.

I was taking video of their last song before the encore, and something hit me. I was about to be ticked that someone threw something at me, when I discovered my huge tracts of land had caught a guitar pick! Sweet!

I’ll take a picture of the guitar pick, maybe, tomorrow. My camera ran out of memory due to the videos I took. And, I suppose I need to review them and see if any of them are worth uploading, given the unbalanced sound of the concert.

more out of town guests
February 16th, 2010 at 07:02 pm by wRitErsbLock in Some Fun Now!, Starved for Attention, Straight to the HipsIn addition to the aforementioned college friends from New York who are in town this week, Maya left me a time-suck facebook message overnight asking me what our plans are this coming weekend. It seems she and her husband are going to be back in town. She suggested getting together for a meal. I counter offered getting together at a New Orleans bar out at Citywalk for colorful adult beverages. I’m all about colorful adult beverages, you know, since prenatal vitamins are not something I am required to take. Pity, that, because a February conception would have provided the possibility of a 10-10-10 birth. Oh well. There’s always 11-11-11 to shoot for.
Then, the first weekend in March, my good friend from RWC days is coming into town. He’s embracing his inner princess to run the Disney Princess Half Marathon so that he can qualify for the coast-to-coast challenge, since he and I are both planning to do the Disneyland Half Marathon in September specifically for the coast-to-coast medal on the five-year anniversary year. And, with him in town, and it being my birthday that weekend, there’s a really high probability that we’ll be back to our New Orleans bar for more colorful adult beverages. Hooray!

Lady 5K pics
February 10th, 2010 at 10:44 am by wRitErsbLock in Some Fun Now!, Starved for Attention, TortureIf you’re interested in seeing race pictures from Saturday’s Lady Track Shack 5K, the pictures are here.
In the Start Line group, you can find me in pictures 402 and 405. I’m wearing a white, long sleeved Disney Half Marathon shirt (so, yellow and blue design with Donald Duck).
(this shirt:
)
In the Finish Line sets, I am in group 40-45 minutes, pictures 833, 841, 845, 849, 853, 856, 857, 858, and in group 45-50 minutes, pictures 2, 5, 7, 10, 13, 16, 20.
Some of them are decent. I might look into purchasing them.

You may notice my little runner avatar is finally off her butt and moving again. I got a new sensor for my Nike + iPod so my runs can “count” and get her moving. It is not yet calibrated, and is way off on mileage counting, but I’ll calibrate it soon. It thinks I did almost 4 miles this morning when I only did just over 3.

I participated in the Lady Track Shack 5K. It was a women only race, which was kind of nice, and it supported cancer research. That picture was taken at the start line… sort of. The actual start line was around the corner to the left, but that’s where I started, back behind the 10 minute mile pace sign. No, I don’t do 10 minute miles, but that was the last pace card they had for starting position, except for the next pace card for walkers with baby strollers.
It was a great race. I really enjoyed it. You know, but for that running thing. It took me around 42 minutes… wait, Track Shack has just updated their site (seriously, 2 minutes ago, results were not yet posted), so I can give you my official results.
2,077 women ran this race.
Place: 1,391
Division Place: 213
Clock Time: 45:03
Chip Time: 42:17
Average Pace: 13:36.4
I think that’s fantastic! Look, I’m never going to be a fast runner. But at least I’m consistent!

And I cannot even begin to properly express to you just how proud I am of myself that I get out there and do races. I have come so far from that scared girl who ran her first 5K in February 2007.
This marked my eighth race, but I only have seven race bibs to show for it, as the race in PCB cheated me out of having a number and a shirt.
I still hate running, I do. But the enormous sense of pride I get from doing this is amazing. It boosts my self-esteem and self-confidence. And, frankly, even though I now have tons of friends/acquaintances who are all runners that I see at all the races, not many people in my real life run, and this is something I do for myself, for my health, to balance out my unhealthy eating/drinking, and to help battle my depression.
Also, it’s pretty frakking cool to tell people I’m doing a race, or I just did a race.
I am a runner.

Magic Kingdom and Epcot
January 30th, 2010 at 08:40 pm by wRitErsbLock in Some Fun Now!My Uncle very kindly got us into Disney today.

We started at Epcot before hopping the monorail over to the Magic Kingdom. It was a great day to do Disney since it wasn’t very crowded, in fact, we waited less than 10 minutes for each ride except Space Mountain that took thirty minutes, and some rides we walked right onto. The weather was iffy, gray and forecast a 60% chance of rain, but that helped cut down on the crowds, and certainly the heat. But, we did things I had never done before. We started at Haunted Mansion, my favorite ride, and then went to Tom Sawyer’s Island, which I had never done before.

There’s a fort on Tom Sawyer’s Island:

where we unexpectedly encountered President Obama, who I thought would be in the Hall of Presidents:

We did Big Thunder Railroad, which I haven’t ridden since I was a teenager.

Then, we shared a turkey leg before hitting the Pirates of the Caribbean and the Jungle Cruise (which I had never been on before).

And over to Tomorrowland where we did the Stitch show (another first for me) and went onto Space Mountain right as the rain started.

Back at Epcot, we walked right onto Spaceship earth before we enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the world showcase.

And I enjoyed a really good beer in Germany.

We were sorry RTY couldn’t join us, as originally planned, but she came home with a terrible report card and blew her chance to go to Disney. These things happen. But my husband and I had a great day together playing tourist.
Thank you so much, Uncle!
