Tomorrow, I’ll take RTY to school. Then, because my cousin is smarter than me, I’ll continue on to my favorite running loop and do my fifteen miles there. I was lamenting to my cousin that taking RTY to school would pretty much guarantee I won’t run when I return home. She said, isn’t RTY’s school halfway to your favorite course? Yes, yes it is. So I’ll dress accordingly and do fifteen miles. It’ll be six laps around the lake. And instead of parking in the usual location (I won’t need to, since I can get an even fifteen without the additional mile to my normal parking lot), I’ll park in the parking area right on the loop. That will work out really well for me, then, because I will have additional bottles of diluted G2 in my car. I went through three bottles of fluid when I did 13.1, so I imagine I’ll need at least three bottles with me tomorrow. And since I’m disinclined to carry three bottles with me, I can just have one, and then stop as required at my car to trade an empty bottle for a full.

My run will start about an hour later than I’d like it to, but at least I’ll be running the course I like. And the fluid thing was a big issue for me. If I do the 15 miles running around the lake here at home, I’d have to break out of the loop to come home and get fluids. And, once home, I’m very disinclined to continue. So just stopping at the car will be much easier.

Since you asked (you know you did), when I run with my team, they have fluid stations set up. So, for instance, on this particular loop, they normally have two stations on the lake (across the lake from each other), and another station at the normal starting location. They provide water and a sports drink, and I generally just refill the bottle I carry with me once it’s empty. I was dreading having to carry so much liquid with me if I ran near home. That’s a lot of additional weight to lug.

I have another fuel review I can do, since I tried a new product when I did 10 last week. But I think I’ll wait and try it out again tomorrow to see if I hate it as much as I think I do.

Curious, my TNT page is having donation problems right now. So the money that has been donated to my PayPal account will have to wait to show up on my TNT site until later.

  1. lukie Said,

You need to get one of the drink dispensers that you carry on your back like a backpack. CAL wanted one when we bought his bike but I didn’t have the extra $$ necessary for it.

you mean the camelback things? I’ve thought of it, but then it’s weight and less air getting to my back.

what I really need is the $50 fuel belt, but obviously that’s not in my budget, either!

The marathon will have drink stations every few miles. Pretty much what I’m running with now is what I will run with that day. I have a pouch to hold fuel, and I carry a bottle of 1/2 water and 1/2 G2 (a gatorade product). I have the bottle strapped to my body. But I can’t carry more than that, it’s just too cumbersome.

  3. maya Said,

you know, camelbacks are actually a lot smaller in person than you would expect. I don’t know the volume it holds, but it seems like you could get more liquid into you by doing what you said: bottles at your car. One big plus for camelback, though, it you can put lots of ice cubes in it, so even if your back isn’t getting any air, it’s at least cool. But yeah, lots of extra weight to carry.

oh yeah, I was going to say something along the lines of this: did you ever think in a million years you’d be blogging about running 15 freaking miles? “eh, last week during my 10 miler…” so nonchalant! Like it’s nothing! You’re doing so awesome!

  5. arcanai Said,

i wouldn’t take anything for my camelpacks; they are absolutely wonderful and ours hold two liters each so they last pretty well. that being said, they are no good for running. especially long distance. the weight would bounce too much on your back, the straps would probably end up rubbing your shoulders/underarms raw, and the back heat is a definite negative. for hiking, biking, skiing, etc - nothing better. for running, keep doing what you’re doing.

arcanai’s last blog post..how you know you?re worthless
