About Me

77 Things About Me (I reserve the right to add to or subtract from this list without warning you first)
1. My name is wRitErsbLock, frequently known as RTE.
2. I will also answer to LBJ, Little Buddy, Buddy.
3. I used to answer to Ryan before RTY was able to cope with there being more than one person with her name in the world. She started calling me Ryan the day I met her; she was two and a half years old.
4. My favoritest person in the entire world is Sherlock.
5. I call him my Puppy. Don’t ask.
6. My home life: husband (twelve years older than me), step-daughter (RTY born in ‘96), mother-in-law (Ma).
7. Pets: one gecko, two bunnies, three chinchillas, a salt-water aquarium full of aqua life, and Ma’s three horrid screeching birds (cockatiels).
8. My eyes change colors with my clothes. Blue or green or gray or something else.
9. I consider myself a writer.
10. For some reason I never write anymore.
11. I play the piano, flute and vocal chords.
12. I made my television debut at age seven when I was the child soloist on a Christmas special that aired on NBC in Denver. I was the only singer to get their name in the credits.
13. I have the second coolest birthday possible for my birth year: 3/7/77. Three and three sevens. Surpassed only by 7/7/77.
14. That means my two favorite numbers are three and seven.
15. I’m a little bit supersticious. But not about the number thirteen.
16. It irritates me to see numbers not spelled out (3 instead of three) except when the number is in a date or if we’re talking about math.
17. My favorite Sci Fi writer is Ray Bradbury.
18. Probably because I met him when I was twelve.
19. My favorite (primarily) short story writer is Tobias Wolff.
20. Probably because he was my neighbor when I was in ninth grade in Skaneateles.
21. I have a perfectly useless Bachelor of Arts in English.
22. I seem to keep finding employment as a bookkeeper. How does that relate to English?
23. I’m a terrible procrastinator. I’ll write more about that later.
24. If I couldn’t sing, I think I’d die.
25. I don’t often experience uncomfortable silences. In fact, I prefer silence.
26. I went through a phase during my first two years of college in which I would throw random square roots into the middle of conversations.
27. The square root of 6,524,277,529 is 80,773.
28. That was my friend RN’s license plate number. It was an all-nighter at Perkins.
29. When I was in the ER having my stomach pumped after my botched suicide attempt, I’m told I correctly recited that square root to the doctor saving my life.
30. The first time I remember contemplating suicide was when I was a little girl in NJ, which means I was seven or younger.
31. I gave my virginity to my first husband.
32. What a waste.
33. The best decision I ever made was to divorce that jerk.
34. That was a long, long time ago.
35. In a galaxy far, far away.
36. I’m a geek.
37. But I have an inner goddess.
38. Neighbor-boy committed suicide after I told him to go to hell.
39. I blame myself for his decision.
40. I’d tell him to go to hell if I had to make that decision all over again.
41. I attract psychos.
42. What is 6×9? “I always said there was something fundamentally wrong with the universe.”
43. I have lived in NJ, CO, CA, NY, VA, & FL.
44. Nine schools in my eleven year educational experience.
45. I have taken courses from seven different colleges/universities in three states.
46. I’m a karaoke junkie.
47. Coca Cola Classic, never the P word.
48. Apparently I’m the middle child. Older brother is two and half years older than me, younger half-brother is nineteen years younger than me.
49. My favorite color is green.
50. My car is orange.
51. My favorite Bible verse is Jeremiah 29:11.
52. I am not religious any more.
53. I am fairly conservative, but I have found I’ve moved toward the middle on several issues since trading in my religious self for this model.
54. I think violent criminals should be turned into human pinatas: doctors get to beat the criminal and whatever organs they knock out they get to use for medical research. Or dinner. With fava beans and a nice chianti.
55. I prefer red wine. A nice chianti, for instance.
56. We own more DVDs than Blockbuster because it’s cheaper to buy movies than attend movies.
57. My favorite SNL sketch was one in which Joe Pesci was the customer at Kevin Nealon’s Pinky Ringery shop. One of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.
58. Famous (or semi-famous) people I’ve met: Bob & Elizabeth Dole, Ray Bradbury, Tobias Wolff, Alton Brown, Paul Burrell, Jeb Bush (he’s very tall), Jimmy Maslon, Hershell Gordon Lewis, David F. Friedman, Chris Muir Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani.
59. My all time favorite movie is White Christmas.
60. I have not (yet) bungee jumped.
61. I have not (yet) jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.
62. I want two more tattoos.
63. I wish I could play the harp.
64. Someday I’d like to be cast in a Broadway play.
65. I auditioned for American Idol in Orlando in 2004. I kicked ass. They suck.
66. I collect frogs.
67. I love to write with expensive fountain pens. Someday I’ll have an extensive collection. Right now I have two.
68. I don’t like to admit it, but I can hold my own in Spanish.
69. I like to annoy RTY by rapidly reciting the Greek alphabet.
70. I’ve been to the top of the World Trade Center, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, and the Hancock Tower in Boston. Also, Pike’s Peak in Colorado.
71. I miss snow. Especially snow skiing.
72. I wrote my Will (and Revocable Trust) when I was twenty-one. Because I worked in estate planning and part of my training was to do a complete set of documents for myself. I really need to update all that since I’m now a married woman.
73. As a child, my parents drove me across the country twice.
74. I have been in the following states: ME, VT, NH, NY, MA, CT, DE, RI, MD, PA, VA, NC, SC, GA, FL, AL, MS, LA, TN, OH, IN, IL, CO, WY, IA, NE, UT, TX, NV, AZ, CA.
75. I have been in the following Canadian Provinces: Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick.
76. I have always wanted to go to Prince Edward Island, Austria, Moscow, Alaska, Galapagos Islands, and Germany.
77. Someday I want to own a cabin in the mountains where I can go to write and enjoy nature.
