With five solid days of non-stop rain last week courtesy of TS Fay, and our normal afternoon thunder showers courtesy of the month of August, our pond is very high. We’re not in danger of flooding like some parts of Central Florida, but the Outer Banks of our pond have been submerged, and it will just require a little more rain to have our pond join with the swamp behind the row of trees. I have pictures, but unless you have been to Pereiraville and are familiar with the normal water height, you won’t appreciate how expansive our pond is.

On the bright side, the size of my backyard that needs to be mowed is decreasing as the water rises!

The baby pictures from the litter born two days before the litter I’m adopting from were posted online yesterday. Oh my goodness these babies are so cute! I’m hoping my baby appears online here soon.

As I watched the raccoon family retreat into the brush, a bird captured my attention. I took his picture until he was out of sight, but I’ll only bore you with four of them.

I had the camera set on landscape, which was not the ideal setting for these pictures, but that’s okay. I’m still learning how to use my Nikon D40.

Across the pond last night:

A family of four ran around, drank from the water, and wrestled with each other. It was so cute.

We watched for a long time through binoculars before I retrieved my camera. Sadly, by the time sherlock came back outside with his camera and his really serious lens, the family had run back into the brush. The bottom picture was taken as they retreated.

I’m feeling a bit blue for some reason. So, let me brighten things up with the flowers on my desk:

This is the father, Fliton:

Mom Mendi is not pictured on the site. And, the babies have not had pictures posted yet, either.

“uh oh, am I too close to this thing?” I wondered as it came crashing down.

The second limb came crashing down onto the trailer with such force that it lifted the bed of the pickup truck completely off the ground. That was some serious weight!

In a few short weeks, I’ll have one of these adorable hedgies! (Not this one. My baby girl has not yet been photographed. But I keep checking the breeder’s website to see if she’ll appear online.)

Remember the storm we had on Friday afternoon and my poor little tree in my front yard? The neighborhood had a casualty at one of the entrance gates:

The tree trimmers were really quite entertaining. They fought with each other loudly and for a long time. And occasionally found time to utilize the chain saw. I was entertained by their constant arguing. And I was certain we would see blood, so I took pictures.

Sadly, no blood, but I did catch the falling tree:

A strong storm went over my house about half an hour ago. Right when my husband was leaving work to ride his scooter home. He asked me to check the camera as he cannot access it due to the firewall or something at his place of employment. It was a bad storm.

Seems to have subsided there, though. It’s almost here to my office, you know, since I’ll be heading out on my scooter soon. But oy my poor little tree:

I never thought it was such a bad little tree. It’s not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.

Ever since our one night camping trip to Jacksonville a few months ago, I have been seeking additional gear to add to my camping stuff. Of course, I have also been trying to determine when and where my next camping trip will be. I am also more aware of what other people have, like, for instance, those canvas wall tents the insane people in the cul-du-sac had set up for their massive party on Independence Day.

I am really quite pleased with the little tent we picked up on clearance. It was easy to assemble and disassemble, it fit back in the bag it came in (you know that never happens!), and it holds three people. As a family of three, that works out well. But I need to get a portable stove, another lantern, cooking utensils, sleeping bags, an air mattress would be nice… really, all we have is a tent and one lantern. We need everything else.

And, yes, I do a lot of my dreaming and shopping online. Nowadays, doesn’t everyone shop online? I love websites that carry items I never even knew I needed! Just like my insatiable need for power tools, I crave the latest and greatest camping gear. Damn my tight budget!

Ooh! I was at a big box store recently and saw they make a little ceiling fan to put in the top of the tent! I need that! Come on, you know I do, since I live in Florida, and therefore am most likely to camp in Florida.

RTY wants to come with us on our next camping trip. Sadly, it will have to wait until it’s not Summer in Florida outside; it’s just too hot to camp right now.

I almost missed him. He was so high up, way over my head. Co-worker E saw him and pointed him out to me. He’s wedged into the slot above a window, some fifteen feet off the ground. He was looking at us, as we measured the house, wondering what we were doing.
